These were my second and third tattoos. Last year, my sister surprised me by visiting me from California and we both got these sparrows on our ribs. Hers is on the opposite side, so they face each other when we’re facing each other. We chose sparrows because they are both of our favorite bird, and usually when people get tattoos of sparrows they get two, so we thought it would be cool if we each got one.

The script underneath, “Quiero ser libre” means “I want to be free” in Spanish. It’s a line from my favorite song, “God’s Child (Baila Conmigo)” by Selena. I think Selena was an amazing person and performer so this tattoo shows my love for her as well as how she has affected my life with her music. I thought it would go well underneath my bird, because I associate birds with freedom as well.

The sparrow was done by Shannon at Tinta Cantina in Albuquerque, NM (Although he has since moved back to Montana) and the script was done by John at Route 66 Fine Line Tattoo (also in Albuquerque).
